![]() I was passed up for a promotion I was told I was going to get. I just quit a startup job after only 10 months of working for them. ![]() You can always back out of the new job on the off chance your current employer wants to fight to keep you and it will not have any real effects to you professionally since you won't have to worry about a resume reference on it. Does this mean it will end amicably? No, but you've done your due diligence and gone above your obligations to your current employer.ĮDIT: Make 100% sure you have that new job lined up and ready to go prior to doing what I mentioned. At this point you've extended two courtesies to your current employer (providing notice and offering them a chance) and you've given sufficient reasoning to leave your position. If they say no or only want to meet part way put in your two weeks' notice. and ask if they are willing to match it (high chances they won't). Talk with your manager and politely explain that you have been given an offer at another company willing to pay you more/better benefits/ etc. If you have any content to suggest for the Recommended Viewing section, message the mods with a link.
